More about our speakers and guests:
Rob Hill Sr., affectionately known as the “Heart Healer,” is
an entrepreneur, motivational speaker and philanthropist. The author of
multiple titles— I Got You: Restoring Confidence in Love and
Relationships and For Single People Who Still Understand the Value
of Relationships (which reached Amazon’s #1 best seller’s list in the
category of “Relationships”)—he is also founder of the Thousand Kings
Foundation, Inc., an organization designed to inspire, influence, and
impact teens to live better, extraordinary lives with purpose, passion and
principle. On June 1, 2013, he hosted the first “The Thousands Kings Walk,” a
community-based event targeted to male teens, age 12–17, to help ensure a
better, more prosperous future. The event raised $10,000 in funds. Ten students
were awarded, each receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
For Rob, his journey to success was a
road riddled with disappointment and regret. At the age of 17, he was kicked
out of his parents’ home in Chesapeake, VA after failing to uphold his
responsibilities and make positive choices. For the next two years, Rob had to
embrace the reality of homelessness as he called the backseat of his car, as
well as the couches of his close friends, “home.” When he realized the affect
his reckless lifestyle would have on his unborn child, Rob confronted the
issues and decisions that had marred his life and made a change. Three months
after the birth of his son, he joined the U.S. Navy in 2008, thus beginning the
transformation of becoming the man that he is today.
As for Karen, growing up in Elizabeth,
New Jersey usually has one end goal: get married, have kids and work a 9-to-5.
But a young Karen Civil dreamed of a more abundant life, channeling her
self-taught design talents and need for a community that mirrored her interests
into AOL fan sites for the Backstreet Boys and J.D. Williams (The Wire).Continuing to sculpt a lane between the
digital space and the entertainment industry, she found herself under the
mentorship of Hot 97's legendary DJ Funk Flex as his trusted radio show
assistant, and eventually, through incredible hard work and strategic
networking, rap crew The Diplomats' web and marketing director.
Nothing, however, compared to the
upward trajectory Karen obtained by connecting with YMCMB (Young Money Cash
Money Billionaires), creating a larger social influence for the label and later
launching an online journal (www.weezythanxyou.com) for Lil Wayne during his
eight-month incarceration in 2010 at Rikers Island.
Since 2008, Karen has stepped from
behind the scenes and launched her own eponymous brand in the entertainment
culture – KarenCivil.com. Under her own name, by her own rules, she has
established her website not only as cultural hub for exclusive entertainment
news and interviews, but has also grown her influence into lifestyle brand Live
Civil, a more personal, motivational platform that highlights Karen's daily
lifestyle and celebrities charitable efforts.
